January Book Review

Happy Friday! I made it one of my goals this year to read one book per month so today I am sharing a review of the book I read in January. Can you believe January is almost over?? Anyways I’m super proud of myself for sticking to this goal because I really enjoy reading! I love using my own imagery to picture the story – it’s like escaping to another world and I find it quite fun and relaxing and most importantly enjoyable!

This month I read a book Called One Thousand White Women. Interesting name, right? It’s set in the 1800’s and the story is about a woman who signs up for a government program that sends white women off to the west to marry Native American warriors. The book is her journals that she keeps during her journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it really makes you think about different cultures and how they see one another – how they are the same and how they are different. I think it gives great reminders on how to be accepting and loving and also teaches lessons on equality. There are of course some sadder parts of the book but the main character is such a strong woman, who in my opinion, is way ahead of her time and she doesn’t let them get her down. I must say that it is definitely not a “feel good” read, the author is very raw and real and describes some terrible things but I think the overall love and compassion that is found in the story is completely worth it. (This book is also meant for ADULT audiences). It is a lengthy read – over 400 pages but stick through to the end I promise you will be happy you did.

I hope you are encouraged to read this book or one of your choice, just read!

Leave your book suggestions in the comments please!

Happy weekend!
