May Book Review

This month for my book, I read the final book in the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs series – Library of Souls. This is the third and last book in the series. (I of course read the first two, but over the last two years). So today I am going to kind of review the series in general, not just this specific book. There is a movie for the first book that was released this past year, but I have not seen it. I think it’s always best to read the book first anyway before seeing the movie.

I would consider this series “Young Adult” but that doesn’t mean adults can’t enjoy it. It is fantasy – these children are ‘peculiar’ – but with that being said, it also is kind of historical fiction in that they travel to different periods of time (WWII, Victorian, etc) which adds an interesting touch to the storyline. I would say if you enjoy Harry Potter, you could probably get into this series. (Centered around children, they have powers, set in the UK, “dark” creatures are after them – you get the picture.)

Now these books are indeed very strange, but I would recommend them. The ending of the last book is satisfying and ties up nicely I think. I don’t really want to give away too many more details than that, because I think readers should experience things for the first time on their own. But if what I gave you interests you, you should go pick up the first book!

I also just finished reading The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook – Kauai Revealed that I borrowed from my dad so I could learn a little bit more about the Island before we go on our honeymoon. I really enjoy how it is written and I find it will be very helpful on our trip. They have guidebooks for most of the Hawaiian Islands, so if your planning a trip I would definitely recommend this author. (He comes out with updated editions frequently so the information stays current).

Thanks for catching up!
