It has been a couple of weeks now, but I really wanted to share our weekend we had at the end of September. It happened to be our anniversary weekend and we were also invited to a party in the Chicagoland area so we made the trip up there after work on Friday.
I wanted to do something special to celebrate our anniversary so we got reservations at one of my family’s favorite restaurants, Morton’s. Little did I know that we would be surprised with a private booth in the corner, confetti, a personalized menu and champagne! It was such a nice surprise.
We had such a nice dinner. The food was amazing and we got the perfect date night just the two of us. We love getting dressed up!
The food was really good too! It always is here, but we also tried the dessert special that was so so good. Red velvet cheesecake and ice cream, the perfect size to split!
Then on Saturday we went to an afternoon movie at iPics. We love iPics because of the comfy chairs and waiter service. They have pretty yummy food and drinks too. We saw Crazy Rich Asians (my choice ha). I thought it was pretty cute! I did just read the book a couple of months ago so it was fresh in my mind and I of course think the book is better!
After the movie and some brief shopping, we headed to my Uncle’s house for an Oktoberfest party! He’s been doing this a few years now but this was the first time we were able to come! He really went all out (we have a German heritage) so the food was great and so were the decorations. I mean seriously, the archway, the signs, the menus, he did a really great job. (He and my dad may have taken a few trips to the real Oktoberfest in their lifetime).
We had a great time.
Then on Sunday, when we were driving home we decided to stop to get something to eat. There’s this town name Le Claire right over the border from Illinois that I’ve driven by a million times and had never stopped. Well this day we finally decided to stop and it was SO CUTE. I loved it. The downtown area was the cutest. There were tons of little shops and restaurants and old buildings, plus a great view of the Mississippi River.
We grabbed a bite to eat and then stopped in a little wine shop for a tasting and had a great time with a random group of ladies. One was so nice and even bought us an anniversary gift! lol. We got a few bottles and then headed down the road to the American Picker’s store.
Do you watch that show? We’ve seen quite a few episodes and it’s pretty cool they are based right here in Iowa. It’s one of those things you are glad that you stop by and see but it is pretty small and everything is very expensive so we did not buy anything lol.
It was a great way to spend our anniversary day!
This weekend was so fun and I just wanted to document it so I could always remember our first anniversary.
Thanks for catching up!
Happy anniversary! Looks like you had a great one.
Your uncle does go all out!
I’d like to visit American Pickers. Not sure I’d buy anything, though, since their stuff is expensive.
